DEVELOPMENT OF THE INSIDE

In our siteplan we want to show that on the left there is a big terrace, from where you can see the river.

This terrace is unit to a bridge, that is the only way to enter our building: you enter from the second floor, where there is the exhibition hall, than with the stairs you go down to firstfloor, where the exhibition continue but where there is also the big conference room.

Coming down with stairs to the groundfloor you can find first the bookshop, where you can buy books or souvenirs of the museum, and also a coffeshop: this is in part on the inside and in part outside on the covered floating square.

With the sections we wanted to show that the main concept of our building is the inclinated ovest facade, which inclination is similar to the one of the existing stairs, and to enter from up, going through the exhibition and arriving to the grounfloor, where there are the public spaces as coffeeshop.

We decided to put also small stairs in front of our building, where you can sit next to the water of the covered square.

For the facades we decided to use a material which can contrast the pink colour of the whole city: we chose pannels of a grey material.

The groundfloor where there is the cafeteria and the bookshop is totally glass opened, to get as much light as it can and to be also visually connected with the covered square outside.
The firstfloor and secondfloor are more closed because there should be natural light but not so much, because this would be not good for the exposition halls.

URBAN ANALYSIS AND DEVELOPMENT OF SHAPE

We analysed the main roads and the secondary roads which connect our project area with the rest of the city, showing which ways are for pedestrian, bycicles, cars, autobuses and boats.

We also showed the green areas around the museum of Montauban.

Our first concept was to connect the extension of the museum with the river using a path which starts and ends in the middle of the water.

We decide that our building should try to follow the inclination of the existing stairs, creating in this way a covered square at the groundfloor, from where the path should start for reaching the river.

The main idea of our project is to have a simple shape, which can fit good in the area given, using the water as a floating connection between the museum and the floating pavillion that we have to build in the middle of the river.
