1_REPORT
My project is an extension of the existing museum of Montauban, in France.
I made a tour of the city of Montauban to understand better the contest of the city, like the most important buildings and squares around the museum where we have to work.
I analized the existing museum of Montauban, in plans and sections, to understand how the expositons are set here.
I also thought about what should be a museum, and expecially a temporary extension of a museum.
I analysed the main roads and the secondary roads which connect our project area with the rest of the city, showing which ways are for pedestrian, bycicles, cars, autobuses and boats.
I analized the sunpath, to have clear in which orientation we want to put our building in the given area.
After have analized the area, I decide the shape of our building, the distribution of the functions on the differnet levels, the materials..
My building is set on three different levels: the exposition rooms are on the second floor, from where you acceed and on the first floor, where there is also the conference hall. At groundfloor there are the public space: a cafeteria and a bookshop about the museum; there is also a covered square outside cafeteria,"floating" on water.
I have obtained the covered square inclinating the main facade of our building, calucltaing the inclination so that all the building could be acceeded.
The most important part of my project are the stairs: they are on the south part of the building, in a three-high space; on the roof there is a big window, to let more light enter the block of stairs.
The higher levels are closed, with only few windows to let the light enter the building, while the groundfloor is totally open with a glass-facade.

2.2. SITE PLAN
In my siteplan I want to show that on the left there is a big terrace, from where you can see the river.
This terrace is unit to a bridge, that is the only way to enter my building, from the second floor.

The block for services is in each floor at the end of the building: there are the stairs and the elevator.

2.4 MAIN PLAN
SECOND FLOOR DETAILED |
For the materials I have decided to use a beige epoxy for the covering the floor because it's easy to set and to clean and some easgonal-shape stones for the pavement of the terrace.
The external facades are in metal pannels, opened only few times each floor; the stairs are in wood.
The pannels of the exposition are movable, so they can fit good dapting to the temporary exhibition they are used for.
2.5 ELEVATIONS
The material that I have chosen is in contrast with the colour of the whole city, to give to my building a kind of difference and importance: I decided to create a continous wall in metal pannels.
Only the groundfloor with the cafeteria and the bookshop is totally enlightened and opened with the whole facade in glass.

SECTION B-B |
In the section B-B you can better see that the block of services is all unit at the right part of the building, to give an ordered, simply and efficace inside geometry at the whole building.
The stairs are an important part of my building.
The inside walls are not fixed: they are movable pannels which make the whole exhibition flexible, so it can be adapted to the kind of temporary exhibition there is inside.
DETAILED SECTION B-B |
In the section A-A you can see that the entrance of our building is at the second floor utilizing a kind of bridge, which connects our building with the existing path; this entrance is covered by a deck of glass, to protect it.

2.7 DETAIL
I decided to analize and show in the detail the mixing facade-cross section at the second floor, in correspondence with the entrance.
I have decided all the materials of this part, to understand how they would be at view: outside the dark grey metal panels for the facade and the pavement stone for the terrace; inside the beige eposky for the floor, the beige plaster for the walls and the alluminium ceiling. The entrance door would be in glass, with metal profiles, as the ceiling profiles.
For the architectural structure, I decided to use the predalles.

2.8 PERSPECTIVES
VIEW OF THE WHOLE BUILDING |
VIEW OF THE INSIDE AND THE COVERED SQUARE |
From the cafeteria you can see the outside covered square, floating on the water, thanks to the whole facade in glass.
VIEW OF THE STAIRS |
The block of the stairs is a three-high space, where the light comes from the big window over it, and from where you can see the water at the groundfloor, thanks to a glass put at the firstfloor level.
The entrance of my building is at the second floor: a bridge connects the existing square with the entrance door, creating also a terrace from where you can see the river.
The entrance is covered by a glass, to protect it.
VIEW OF THE TERRACE |
VIEW OF THE ENTRANCE |
The entrance of my building is at the second floor: a bridge connects the existing square with the entrance door, creating also a terrace from where you can see the river.

VIEW OF THE BRIDGE |
From the covered square floating on the water you can walk on a bridge which continues until the floating pavillion in the middle of the river: in this way the extension of the museum and the pavillion are connected.
3_PAVILLION
SITEPLAN |
The idea of our pavillion is to have a floating path reachable from the extension of the museum, which walks all around the building: from this path you can stay outside where we have put some benches to see the beautiful landscape, or you can enter the music pavillion.
PLAN |
Our pavillion has a circular shape: there is one big room where you can sit and speak with the other people listening to the music of the hall, while the rest of the building is divided in small individual rooms.
In the individual rooms can enter only one person: these are provided with comfortable sofas and the light is really soft, so you can sit alone in the quite dark listening to the music and looking at the river from the window.
There is also one room which can be entered only from the outside and not from the main entrance of the building: this is a surprise room , because when you enter it from the path you don 't know where are you going to.
The music is played also outside, so you can listen to it sitting on the benches and looking to the river.
DETAILED PLAN |
SECTION A |
SECTION B |
For the facade of the pavillion we have thought about some wood pannels, while the deck is in metal and the path is covered by stones; big windows are opened to the main hall of the pavillion.
FACADE 1 |
FACADE 2 |
We thought that for a music pavillion the most important thing was to feel something while you are listening to the music: sitting on the beches outside you can stay with other people looking to the landscape, in the main hall you can speak with the other, while in the individual rooms you can feel comfortable and stay alone, relaxing. In the two first typologes the music is soft, while in the individual rooms it is louder, because it's the most important thing.
